Items For Sale

Samouelian Musical Instruments Storefront: Monastiraki, Athens, 2006.
I am clearing out more of my musical instrument collection. Most of these flutes have been in my collection for 30 - 40 years. All flutes are sold as is. I have described them as well as I can. There are no refunds, but I've added a discount of $10 off each flute to make them a bit more affordable. If you are interested in ALL or SEVERAL of the flutes, I can negotiate further. Also, there will be postage fees for shipping the flutes. Email me to order, or with questions, at OArkas@aol.com.
Greek Flutes
Greek flutes are for the most part "cross blown." This means that they are not "whistle" flutes like recorders, but are cylinders that are open on both ends. The musician blows across the open, upper end of the flute. This is not easy to do, but once you get the hang of it, the sound is very nice and much different from the "whistle" type flutes. Most of these are shepherd pipes and are mainly made by and played by Greek shepherds.
Tzamara
Handmade from metal pipe (by me); this is a cross blown "floyera" type flute from northern Greece. These long, low toned Tzamara flutes are especially popular in Epiros, northwestern Greece. $40 - sale
Floyera (metal)
Handmade (by me) from a grey/silver colored metal pipe; a cross blown "floyera" or shepherd's flute; This one plays very well. $45 - sale
Yugoslav Flutes
Most flutes from the old republic of Yugoslavia are what I call "whistle" flutes; they are played like the recorder and other such flutes.
Frula (carved)
This beautiful frula from the old Yugoslavia is a work of art, with its nice wood carvings and beautiful finish; however, it also plays really nicely as well. $140 - sale
Frula (metal end band and beautiful wire binding)
This large, deep toned frula plays very well. The decorative and protective wire binding is very pretty, and the hard wood is finished extremely well. This one is really a good one, both for its decorative appeal as well as its sweet sound. $140 - sale
Other Nationality Flutes
Asian Flute
This is a simple, end blown, bamboo flute from China. It's not very fancy, but it does play nicely. $10 - sale
Asian Flute (cross blown like American classical flute)
This bamboo flute is played like an American classical flute. It is a very "folky" looking flute with flamed stripe designs. $15 - sale
